It's nearly time for Championships!
Friday, 02 July 2010 08:50
This has been another fantastic season of fast swimming, good friends and fun and as we move toward Championships, there are several important items for all Wahoo's to remember:

Thursday July 8th will be the last early-in practice for the 13-18 year olds. Starting on Friday July 9th the older ages will be coming in at 7:15 to stretch, and getting in the pool at 7:30. This is to allow the older swimmers to get more rest and prepare for the Championship Meet on July 21 and 22. This group of older swimmers is also having a party at the pool on the evening of Tuesday, July 13th from 5:00 until 9:00 pm. This is a annual effort on the part of the coaches to recognize this age group for their determination, sacrifice and hard work at a very early hour during their summer vacations.

The practice schedule will also be modified for the 6-Under swimmers. This group will be combined with the 8-Unders starting on Monday July 12th. This is to allow the 6-Unders to prepare for their relay events in the Championship Meet. The 6-Unders will swim Exhibition backstroke and freestyle at Championships, just as any other meet. But, they will also be swimming either 8-U butterfly or breaststroke and a Medley and/or Free Relay.

Friday July 9th will be the last practice for the Pre-Team Swimmers. This is a very special group of developmental swimmers, some of which have already participated in a dual meet. We hope that we will be able to have more Pre-Teamers participate in one of the two meets that we have next week before the end of their season. Either way, the Pre-Teamers are an important part of the team and we hope that they continue to come to all remaining events (Awards Ceremony, Championships and Championships Party).

Finally, I will be completing Line-ups for the Los Tiburones and Eastern Hills meets this weekend, as well as working on the Championships line-up. The Championships line-up must be submitted to the SAAA by Friday, July 9th. If there are any issues that I need to be aware of regarding the Championships meet, please contact me ASAP.

As far as whether Champs will be at Amphi or Ft. Lowell goes... No answer yet. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

You will soon be receiving more information on the Awards Party, Championships and the Championships Party. Until then, I'll see you around the pool.

GO WAHOO'S!

Coach Ed Update - May 13th
Thursday, 13 May 2010 14:54

Coach EdImportant Information from the coaches:

As everyone knows practice is in full swim and the swimmers are showing improvement in their strokes and conditioning every day.  We want to make everyone aware of a few things as we progress toward the summer season:

Parents: please monitor your children at swim practice.  We would like to keep the areas between the ramada's and the pool clear of playing children.  The swimmers in water need the attention of the coaches and do not need to be distracted by people in the grass or on the decks.

Swimmers and Parents:  Please remember to use the "Sign-Out-Book" to let the coaches know about meets you plan to miss.  Sign out as early as possible.

Swimmers and Parents:  The Red Black Meet is next Saturday, May 22.  Please mark your calendars!  We usually begin the meet by 8:00 am and wrap up by around 11:00 am.  Important Meet info:

  • This is a "time-trial" meet (we compete against swimmers from our own team, and the clock)
  • Warm-up begins at 7:30 am (swimmers arrive at 7:15)
  • Parents will be running the meet - Plan to help!
  • Parents will be encouraged to participate in the "Parent Relay"s at the conclusion of the Red-Black, so bring your suits!
  • Team assignments will be made next week.  Check the bulletin board starting next Tuesday.
  • More details will be included in next week's announcements

Wednesday, 14 April 2010 10:12

Highland Vista Parents and Swimmers! Thank you for making the start of the 2010 swim season a smooth and successful beginning. It should be a great season!

Here are a few reminders for everyone as we move forward:

  • All swimmers should have goggles
  • Swimmers with hair that is past the collar should have a cap
  • Swimmers age 9 and up will need a short blade "zoomer" style fin by the 2nd week of practice
  • As much as possible parents should stay off the deck during swim practice
  • Team suits are available at Patio Pools

(Please see the coaches regarding these if you have questions)

Happy 2010 Wahoo's! Wow, the last year has gone so fast, it's hard to believe that we're getting ready for swimming again. I hope that everyone's school year is going well, and that you are healthy and happy (we won't mention wealthy in this economy).

I spent the school year teaching at Vail and coaching swimming at Rincon/UHS. I get the satisfaction of continuing to coach several of our Wahoo's through the high school season, as well as watching those HV swimmers that represent other schools. You'd be proud to know that where ever the Wahoo's go they compete at a very high level and exhibit tremendous sportsmanship.

It looks like Coach Jeff will be allowed to walk-on to the UA men’s team. Way to go Jeff! He's swimming well and plans to continue coaching with us this season. We're all looking forward to another great season at HV! See you soon.
