July 6 Update
Tuesday, 06 July 2010 14:41
One of the great joys I have experienced as co-chair this year has been my interactions with the teams that we swim against. It seems like each time we have a home meet, someone from the opposing team pulls me aside to compliment us on how efficiently we run our meets and to say how much fun it is to swim with such an enthusiastic group of families. It makes me so proud to be a part of this team! Thank you for being such a great group.

As we prepare for our last home meet tonight vs. Los Tiburones, we find ourselves in need of a few more volunteers. Please go to the volunteer wiki volunteer wiki, if you think you can help us out. We need the following: snack bar workers, timers, another runner, a back-up stroke & turn judge, and clean up workers.

As you tour the wiki, don't forget to check out the sign-ups for Championships. We need lots of help.

Finally, I will start passing back checks tonight to families that have completed their volunteer commitments. Be looking for me if you think it is time for you to get back that $50 check! And, if you're still looking for ways in which to fulfill your hours, you might consider helping out with set-up/clean-up for the awards banquet and/or the pizza party after championships. See me if you'd like to get involved with those final events.

Thanks so much once again for your enthusiasm and support,
Jennifer Gould
HVAC, co-chair

PS Please remember to contribute to the coaches' gifts. The coaches have put in many hours over past few months and they have done so much for our kids. The Malloy family is heading up that effort. You can drop a check in their folder or you can give them cash tonight at the meet. If you don't know who they are, see me and I can point you in their direction. Generally, you can find them set-up in the grass behind the diving board!

It's nearly time for Championships!
Friday, 02 July 2010 08:50
This has been another fantastic season of fast swimming, good friends and fun and as we move toward Championships, there are several important items for all Wahoo's to remember:

Thursday July 8th will be the last early-in practice for the 13-18 year olds. Starting on Friday July 9th the older ages will be coming in at 7:15 to stretch, and getting in the pool at 7:30. This is to allow the older swimmers to get more rest and prepare for the Championship Meet on July 21 and 22. This group of older swimmers is also having a party at the pool on the evening of Tuesday, July 13th from 5:00 until 9:00 pm. This is a annual effort on the part of the coaches to recognize this age group for their determination, sacrifice and hard work at a very early hour during their summer vacations.

The practice schedule will also be modified for the 6-Under swimmers. This group will be combined with the 8-Unders starting on Monday July 12th. This is to allow the 6-Unders to prepare for their relay events in the Championship Meet. The 6-Unders will swim Exhibition backstroke and freestyle at Championships, just as any other meet. But, they will also be swimming either 8-U butterfly or breaststroke and a Medley and/or Free Relay.

Friday July 9th will be the last practice for the Pre-Team Swimmers. This is a very special group of developmental swimmers, some of which have already participated in a dual meet. We hope that we will be able to have more Pre-Teamers participate in one of the two meets that we have next week before the end of their season. Either way, the Pre-Teamers are an important part of the team and we hope that they continue to come to all remaining events (Awards Ceremony, Championships and Championships Party).

Finally, I will be completing Line-ups for the Los Tiburones and Eastern Hills meets this weekend, as well as working on the Championships line-up. The Championships line-up must be submitted to the SAAA by Friday, July 9th. If there are any issues that I need to be aware of regarding the Championships meet, please contact me ASAP.

As far as whether Champs will be at Amphi or Ft. Lowell goes... No answer yet. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

You will soon be receiving more information on the Awards Party, Championships and the Championships Party. Until then, I'll see you around the pool.

GO WAHOO'S!

June 30 Update
Thursday, 01 July 2010 12:41
Hello Highland Vista Families!

Can you believe that is July already?? Wow, time is flying by so quickly. As I am sure you know, we have a home meet tomorrow vs. Lakeside Blast. This will be a bigger team than Green Hills, so we'll need to be organized to run an efficient meet. We are still in need of some volunteers. Currently, we do not have anyone signed up to do Stroke and Turn. This is critical to the running of the meet. Additionally, we need one more timer and someone to do ribbons. If you think you can help us out, please go to http://highlandvistaswim.pbworks.com/Lakeside-Blast.

Please remember that there will be no practice on Friday, July 2nd. We will have practice on Monday the 5th as we prepare for a home meet on the 6th against Los Tiburones.

Finally, remember to mark your calendars for the Awards Banquet on Saturday, July 17th.

See you all tomorrow night. Thanks so much for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Gould, co-chair

Neighborhood Potluck - 4th of July
Thursday, 01 July 2010 12:42
The Highland Vista Neighborhood Association is hosting a 4th of July potluck at the pool this Sunday. You do not have to be a pool member to come enjoy a fun afternoon, all neighbors and swim team families are invited. The kids parade will start at 4:30pm. In keeping with tradition, this is also the time to donate a chair or lounger (decorated or not) to the pool. The Highland Vista Neighborhood Association appreciates your support. See the attached flyer for more information.

June 28 Update
Sunday, 27 June 2010 23:08
Hello HVAC Families,

I just came back from the "Space Wars" show at the Gaslight Theater. It was a great show, with a large group from Highland Vista filling most of the theater. From what I could tell everyone had a great time. Thank you to Donna Singleton and Rosanne Lehman for making this year's show possible. Things slow down a bit this week, with just the two dual meets and no social activities planned.

Meets
Both meets are home this week. Be at the pool by 4:45 pm, as the home team warms up at 5:00 pm.
Green Hills - Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Lakeside BLAST - Thursday, July 1, 2010

Trophies
We will be recycling trophies again this year. If you have some past trophies that you would like to see recycled please drop them off in the bin near the pool entrance. Look for a sign identifying the bin. Please remove the name plate before putting the trophies into the recycle bin.

Towels
A message from Audrey...
We are going to be offering red beach towels embroidered with your swimmer's name. The cost of the towel is $20. We would like to get these done as soon as possible. Amy Johnson will be handling the orders. Please see her by the swim meet Tuesday night to place your orders. So far I have received orders from:

  • Veronica Kearny – Bella and Ellie
  • Denise Arellano – Michaela
  • Camille Catsaros – Stella
  • Sarah (Ben Siemens'mom) – Ben
  • Audrey Campbell – Luke

Lastly, on a personal note, the Campbells are gone for the rest of the season. We are in Colorado for a family reunion. Thank you all for another great summer. We wish you all the best for the rest of the swim season and championships. We look forward to seeing you again next summer!

Fondly,
Jim, Audrey, Riley, Brian and Luke

Mark you calendars for Saturday, July 17, 2010 for the annual Awards Dinner. We will gather at the Highland Vista pool starting at 6:00 pm. Amy Kelaher and Stefanie Teller are coordinating the event this year. Scott Rice is putting together the slide show for the event. Please send Scott your best pictures from the 2010 HVAC season so he can began the process of creating the slide show. You can reach Scott via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

See you at the pool. Go Wahoos!
